What the Heck is in the…

Charlie Bear here.

Something strange happened the other morning. Two ducks landed in our pool (like many other homes here in Southern California, ours has a pool). Nothing so weird about ducks landing in the pool, right? Well, when you hear the story, you might think otherwise.

First, I ALWAYS bark at things in the backyard: possums, squirrels, cats. But I didn’t let out a peep when I saw the ducks. Want to know why? Cause I knew who they were — who they represented. But wait…I’m getting ahead of myself.

They floated in with wings spread wide, landed with barely a splash, then began to swim around. After about five minutes, the male Mallard, all shiny and pretty, flew off! Just like that, he left the female Mallard’s side. She swam alone, all brown and camouflaged and unassuming, but calm and quiet. She didn’t fret, she didn’t fly off to find him, she waited, patiently.

Mom Peep thought the male duck was gone, and she was sad. But no! He flew back into the pool about two minutes later. The female paddled over to him, nuzzled up next to his side, almost like a hello smooch or a hug after coming home from work or something. They sunned on the deck, preened and bathed and frolicked. And I watched, not uttering a sound.

Want to know why? If you have read the CHARLIE BEAR book, then you’ll remember the night after Rex went over the Rainbow Bridge. Three ducks flew into our pool that night–one female and two males. They represented Diamond, Red, and Rex.

This visit a few days ago was from Diamond and Red. Mom and Dad Peep consider it comfort. Me, too.

Have you had any visitors that represent someone or something precious to you?

Wiggles and woofs,
Charlie Bear

I’m enjoying your photos and descriptions of your dogs’ doings! I just found your blog through rachelmankowitz’s blog. I plan to stop by again to read more.
If you like dog stories, you also might want to stop by my blog, http://maijaharrington.com. I’m blogging one chapter per week from my book-in-progress, Funny Tails: Adventures and Misadventures in Living with Pugs. It’s a lighthearted look at my life with our 3 pugs plus various rescue dogs we’ve fostered. You should get a few laughs from it.
    Best wishes,

      Dear Maija,
I’ll be sure to tell my Mom Peep about your pug’s “mis”adventures. I, of course, never have any of THOSE! ha ha

Charlie Bear & B.J., I have a new anew picture and pin name now but you can still do your replies with the old one if you like. This is the only way I knew how to put peep MoM’s picture in the spot it is supposed to be at. Hope you don’t mind. I will submit a new post on your comments later. Take care for now.

    Woofs & Paws,
    Beaugie.

Ohhhhh, Charlie Bear, what a deep, heartfelt post. And you’re being such a good boy to sit so still and quiet and watch. Tell your mom hey for me–and how much I adore this post…from your heart!
