Am I a Wuss in the Rain? asks Charlie Bear

The concrete is wet. The grass is wet. My feet are wet. I don’t like my feet to be wet.

I don’t like the rain. Why is it here so early? Seems like last year we had rain in maybe January and February, not in November. Geesh.

If I expect to get wet, like when the groomer gives me a bath, or I walk slowly into a heated swimming pool, that’s different. But to walk outside, expecting sunshine and dry ground, and to have to endure wetness on the bottoms of my feet and then ALSO rain pelting my body…welll, the indignities of it all.

Dad calls me a fair weather dog. Mom Peep even thought about taking me out under an umbrella. That’s pretty funny when you think about it. Her, standing there with an umbrella over me.

It’s a good thing I don’t live in cold country, like Colorado or the Midwest or even the East Coast. I hear they’ve been getting hit with SNOW already. White stuff, cold stuff, brrrr. That would be super hard to take.

So am I a wuss? Probably. Big dog Rex taught me lots of things before he left, but not how to like the rain. He liked it. Stood out there and loved it.

Not me, you can have it. Bring on the sunshine.

      Dear Pa —
That was ME…Charlie Bear. Mom Peep doesn’t mind the rain one bit. She actually likes storms and thunder and hail and snow. Not me.
She hopes you stay dry all the way up there on the coast and she says she’ll see you in March at Mt. Hermon!

CB, Clyde said to tell you he doesn’t like to go outside when it’s dark outside. I have to “help” him. Thanks for sharing your heart with us.

P.S. So far, he’s not afraid of thunderstorms. 🙂

      Clyde,
You’re afraid of the dark? Lots of doggies don’t like the dark. I think I’m like a Spiderman or Superman or something. Maybe I even see in the dark, ’cause I’m not afraid of it at all. Then again, I haven’t had to go out into pitch-blackness, there’s always been lights on. Maybe I’ll check it out sometime and discover I am afraid of the dark!

Charlie Bear..if you were a Newfoundlander or a pointer or whatever those duck dogs are called and didn’t like the rain, that would be another thing. But even ‘outside dogs’ like Shadow and Sadie don’t like the rain when they can be warm and dry instead!

      Shadow and Sadie,
I’m with you guys. I like it warm and dry inside too. And I’m definitely not a duck dog!

Being from Indiana we get our share of rain in the spring and fall and (Brrrrr!!!) snow in the winter. I don’t mind any of it too much as long as I don’t have to stay out in it long. My mom keeps a towel by the back door and as soon as I come in she dries me off. (Of course, I still have to shake when she’s done, but you know how that is.) The only exception is thunder. I don’t like it AT ALL! If I am outside when it thunders I make a bee-line for the back door. If I am in the house and it thunders, I bark back at it and then I go crawl under the bed. I am bigger than you, Charlie Bear, but thunder makes me a wuss. I am sure we all have something like that in our lives that we don’t like so don’t feel too bad about it.

    Your pal,
    Jake

      Jake,
THUNDER???? Oh, my. Here in So. Cal we don’t get much of that at all. A few growly noises from the sky once in a while, but not often. I bet that would scare the bee-jeebies out of me and I’d crawl under the bed too!
Have a wiggly, shakey, dry day!

    Charlie Bear,

My dachshund hates the rain, too. Especially doing her “business” in it. Unfortunately, she will sometimes turn around and do that same business on the nice, dry carpet. Sigh. Can’t blame her too much, though–I imagine it’s not pleasant to go out into the wet grass with bare feet. I have stood over her with the umbrella, but it doesn’t seem to help much.

Be glad you don’t live in the rainy northwest, either!

      Karen,
My Mom has to push me out the door sometimes. I really, really don’t want to stand out there in the plops and drops to do my drops (if you know what I mean), so I hear you about your Doxie not wanting to!
      Mucho wiggles to you,

      Niki,
Nice that you agree with me. Those rain lovers can have it!
