“Daddy’s Home” Charlie Bear with LAA #18

Right around the four-month mark, I began to think of my male peep as something different. I’d bonded with this guy. He let me lay on his chest when he reclined in his chair, and I’d put my paws up toward his neck and then dart my face forward to give him little licks and kisses. It made him laugh.

Female peep was the one who was around most of the day. She was the one who fed me, let me in and out, and gave me treats at night when I went to bed. But who did I run to for loving?

FEMALE PEEP: “Daddy’s home, Charlie Bear!”

She didn’t have to tell me, I always heard his truck way before she did. I scurried to the hallway to await his arrival and squirmed and squealed with pleasure. And when he came in the door I exuberantly jumped up and down to show him how much I missed him.  Female peep had one thing right. I didn’t think of this man as “male peep” anymore. He was Daddy now. And he was mine.

FEMALE PEEP to MALE PEEP: “He sure does love you. Look at how crazy he gets when you get up in the morning, or when you come home at night. You’re definitely his Poppa.”

You could call him that. Daddy. Poppa. Either is fine. He loves me and I love him.

One night female peep sat on the sofa across from Daddy’s recliner. They were watching something on TV when I jumped up on the couch, padded over next to her, laid down and stretched out my body tightly at her side. Her voice got all mushy.

FEMALE PEEP: “Look at him. That’s what Red used to do every night.”

I figured out Red was the Marmalade cat they had right before they got me. He was a real old codger and he’d been diabetic for five years. At 15 ½ they had to let him go over The Rainbow Bridge. Now here I was snuggled up to her like he always did. A few days later I walked into her office. She was at the computer typing away. I sat down at the side of her chair, looked up with my sweet-tease eyes, and wagged my tail. She picked me up, held me on her lap, then put her arms around me and continued typing.

That’s when I knew. I was in like Flynn.

Charlie you are getting it down pat, and i’m trying to get it to, but as you know that is pretty hard to do at times. I really want a copy of your book so one of my ‘peep moms’ can read it to me. My older peep mom thinks i’m sort of angry at her for i rather sleep with my other one; really i’m not though, i do not particular like to sleep with the light shining in my eyes while she reads, neither do i like to cover my head up or to stay in another room til she gets ready to turn out the lights. Got any suggestions?

    Keep on being good!!

      Dear Beaugie,
As active and rambunctious as we are, we need our beauty sleep. Nothing wrong with sleeping somewhere else to get it, but I hear you about wanting to be close to female peep even though she keeps the light on to read. Can you alternate between the two? Maybe you can get one of those eye shade things like peeps wear when they want to keep the light out of their eyes. : )
      Woofs to you,

Oh, Charlie Bear, I want to win that copy of your book so badly because I love you. Then I can put your picture up on my wall next to my bed in my lady’s room, and she can read me stories about you all day long. Yours truly, your one and only Honey Bunny.

      Jean,
I’m working on the being good and the being sweet part. Trying my best. Thanks for commenting. You’ve got lots of chances in the drawing, but comment some more for additional opportunities.

        Susan,
I’ll be sure my female peep puts your name in the drawing. You’ll have a bunch of chances, because you’ve commented before, but keep it up — the more chances the better to win a free book!

      Writer Heart,
I think you’re onto me. I use my charms when I need to, and I don’t let my female peep know she’s twisted around my little paws. But I’ve got her!
      Hugs to you,
      Charlie Bear
