“Something to Chew On” Charlie Bear with LAA #15

I did it. I got past probation. The peeps decided to keep me. Male peep loves me. Female peep thinks I’m the dad-gum cutest thing on the planet (wrapped her around my paws on that one).

In what seems like no time at all, I got these peeps trained. Mornings are playtime, eating, outside, then into the gated kitchen for a few hours while female peep goes to work. She gives me my own red Kong toy with peanut butter in it, and I hear her give the big dog the same thing. I think his is much bigger than mine, but I’m satisfied. Later, it’s up onto male peep’s lap, snuggle in to get petted, and then play for a while with female peep with froggie toy or baby squirrel (not a real one, though I would like that).

Dinnertime is good. She makes me do a “down” before she feeds me, but that’s okay. The big dog eats in a separate room and our bowls are picked up when they’re empty, or in his case, when he doesn’t eat anymore. He often leaves tasty nuggets. I wolf down my chow, then try to munch on what’s left of his before female peep notices, but she always hears the crunching sound. Drat.

One Saturday morning the doorbell rang and new people entered the house. Joy! She was having some kind of a meeting. I loved the attention from the women as each one bent over to pet me. I jumped as high as I could, which meant I came up to a person’s knees, but female peep kept telling them not to pet me if I did that. I had to settle down first, which wasn’t fair.

The next time the bell rang, I raced to it. She flung the door open wide and hugged a woman. That’s when I saw it. Green grass. Sidewalk and street. Open spaces. I stepped over the threshold, looked up at female peep, down the driveway, and then up at her again.

FEMALE PEEP: “Come, Charlie Bear. Inside.”

Are you kidding me?

Charlie Bear, I have been following your story for some time now and I am so glad you have found your forever home and peeps to love you. Every doggie deserves a good and loving home. When my former master was deployed overseas I became so nervous and upset that I developed a type of mange and the foster peeps I was living with thought they would have to put me down, but at the last moment a sweet lady took me to the vet and found out it was curable. She gave me a great home with three cats who love me and think I am one of them! I am fully recovered now and I’m so glad life is good for both of us again!

    Your Pal,
    Jake.

      Jake,
Thanks for following my story. I’m sorry your former master was deployed overseas, but I’m so happy you found a forever home with three cats. I bet I’d like cats. Never tried them before though. I do chase the outdoor one. Yesterday I almost caught him, but shoot, he was just a tad bit faster than me. How can that be?
So glad you are happy, Jake.

Charlie, you are doing so well with your peeps. My lady knows I’m getting older. I’m too tire to even jump up on the sofa anymore, so she comes down to me to hug me. Love you, Charlie Bear. Honey Bunny Hubler.

      Honey Bunny,
You are a lucky doggie to have your Mommy bend down and hug you. My female peep does too sometimes, and I like it!
      Woofs to you,
      Charlie Bear

Charlie, what is a red Kong toy and how does she get peanut butter in it?
Is peanut butter good for dogs?

      Susan,
The rubber red Kong toy is fantastic. It’s hard, they make them large for big dogs like Rex who like to chew (that’s the lab & golden in him) and they make a mini one for my size (I like to chew too, but my little teeth don’t do much damage). Anyway, I’ll have my peep put a link or something in here for you. And as for peanut butter, we dogs LOVE it. And it’s not bad for us at all. Check out http://www.kongcompany.com to see where they initially came from, but you can buy them at most any pet store.

Charlie Bear, one day I’d love to ring your female peep’s doorbell and say hi. You could show me around. 🙂

      Julie,
You bet I could show you around! Clyde too! I don’t rush out the door anymore when she opens it. I like it better snuggled up inside here where it’s safe and warm. Clyde I bet loves that too.
      Sniffles to you,
      Charlie Bear
