One Out of Thousands

We’re looking to adopt a dog. There are hundreds, even thousands, of dogs that need homes. How do you choose? What makes a dog right for you, or you right for the dog? It’s a daunting decision and it breaks your heart to see how many there are that need homes, but we both fell in love with one particular dog’s photo online.

We’re going to meet this special dog tomorrow morning and we hope it’s a good match. Our resident dog, Rex, is ten. We have room in our lives for another pooch especially since we just lost our two 15-year-old cats (one in February and one last month). We’re ready.

This dog we’re going to meet  is just over a year old. He deserves a home, just like all the others. I thought back the other day to when Rex was young (that’s Rex in the picture below). Man, he was a terror.  Back in August I did a post where I noted what I ultimately needed to PUT into practice when Rex was a pup:

P – Patience
U – Understanding
T – Training

No matter what dog we choose (or who chooses us!) he’ll need behavior training reinforced, patience, and understanding.  He’ll also need love, lots and lots of love.

So will this dog we see tomorrow come to live with us? That is yet to be seen. His rescuer and foster mom are bringing him over to meet us and to meet Rex. Stay tuned!
