The word skype means…

Family time!

Charlie Bear here. This feat of technology didn’t come easy for Mom Peep. She went to Best Buy and pondered the little web cam thingies and then bought one.

Webcam

She stuck it on the top of her monitor and plugged it into the back of her computer using a USB port. (She knows about those.)

Then she looked up Skype. A funny word, huh? The Wikipedia English dictionary says this:

Skype is a proprietary voice-over-internet protocol service and software application originally created by John Szczepanik and Janus Friis in 2003, and owned by Microsoft since 2011.
Wow. Technology is something else, huh?

So Mom Peep did the download thing, set up a user name, took a picture of herself with the camera thingie, and then set up Family Time with pregnant Kaitlyn and Nick in Wisconsin.

She was really scared it wouldn’t work. But guess what? It did! They had just one tiny technical glitch in the very first second when the sound didn’t come through, but Mom clicked some kind of button and then voila…there were their voices! The image on her computer showed their wonderful, animated, loving faces.

They showed Mom Peep Baby Aubree’s room with the bright pink walls and the TONS of clothes ready for her in two months. They pointed their laptop with their built-in camera toward the doggies and she saw how big they are getting, and Kaitlyn stood up and showed off her very large belly of Baby Aubree under construction. Mom Peep reached out toward the picture and could almost feel her arms wrapped around her loved ones.

It wasn’t the same as being there, but Mom grinned the entire time. She even put me up on her lap and the kids got to see my cute mug.

Sometimes, Mom gets stuck in scared mode. But then she asked her son Rick, he reassured her it wasn’t too hard, she talked to the guy at Best Buy, she read the directions, and then, like Nike says…she finally had to courage to:

Just do it

And boy, is she glad she did. You may wonder why it took Mom so long to get with the program. Ahhh….yes, we often wonder why some people take a while to see the light and to get moving. But boy, she’s happy now!

So what new thing have you taken the leap into trying lately?

Wiggles and Woofs to all of you,
Charlie Bear

No, CB, I have a new windows 8 now and can you believe it does not have a web cam in it!! I have been thinking that I have a Windows 7 that has a web cam in it so could you ask her to ask Rick if they could be joined together to use the 7’s web cam to show on the 8’s monitor? I probably should just go ahead and get one like your peeps did. Take care of yourself CB and peeps also.

      Beaugie,
I wonder if it’s the Windows 8 or the actual computer that doesn’t have the web cam. Mom had to buy the camera thingie from the store because her monitor and even her laptop didn’t come with it built in. She really liked the guy’s help at Best Buy. You might want to try that.
You take care of yourself, too. And give your Mommy Alice a lick and wiggle,
      Charlie Bear

Yea! It’s wonderful, isn’t it? You’ve inspired me–I’ve used others’ Skypes but not set up my own–this week, I’ll do it! Thanks for the encouragement, Charlie Bear and Mom Peep. Joy!

      Jean,
You’ll love having your own Skype-ability. I think my Mom Peep will do it more often now that it’s right there staring at her from the top of the monitor!

Oh, Charlie Bear. Please give your mom a message. I’m grinning, big time. I’m so proud of her!!! And I’m so thrilled she got to spend time with some of her most favorite people–next to you, that is. 🙂

Tell her way to go! I know exactly what she means about being a little afraid of technology. 🙂

      Julie,
Thanks for the kudos for Mom Peep! I’m super proud of her, too, ’cause I know fancy-schmancy stuff can scare her. Not me. I’m not afraid of nothing’…ha!
Wiggles to you and Clyde the Slyde, (how’s he healing up BTW?)
