Great article, Charlie Bear! I love your attitude about the 10 things you’re grateful for!

Clyde says to tell you he loves your tips–and that he knows when it’s time to feed him (which is twice a day). Once, first thing in the morning, and then a second time when the phone rings late in the afternoon and my daughter calls on her way home from work. 🙂

By the way, the vet said Clyde should lose about 8 pounds. Charlie Bear, can you believe that?! You know what a huge Lab he is. Long and tall!!

      Clyde the Slyde,
Have you been scarfing up too much grub? You’ve got to watch that figure of yours. My buddy Rex (Golden Lab) was a bit on the pudgy side. Guess it runs in Labs? Anyway…try cutting out 1/4 of a cup of food each day and maybe start jumping up and down off the bed at least 5-10 times a day. That should do it. Oh, and then buy your Mom and Dad Peep a new mattress in a month. ha ha

    Hi Charlie Bear!

I loved hearing about the top 10 things you appreciate. I appreciate all those things, too! Especially the ones about lots of different treats and food being on time! Our mom has a pretty good schedule for us. She gives us breakfast at 5:00 am when she gets up and then we have supper at 5:00 pm when she gets home from work. We also get some type of special treat at 8:00 each night. Did you know that cats can tell time? Our Abby can! Every night right at 8:00 Abby comes into the living room and sits right in front of Mom to make sure she doesn’t forget our treats! (Not that Mom ever would, but Abby doesn’t want to take that chance.) When we have company over in the evenings everyone checks the clock as soon as Abby walks into the room and it’s always right at 8:00. She’s never wrong! I guess it’s a good thing she knows because I haven’t figured out how to tell time yet, but I sure do know when I’m hungry!

I really enjoyed reading your article in the magazine Charlie Bear. Keep up the good work for rescue dogs like us.

    Your pal,
    Jake

      Jake,
Oh, man, that Abby is something else! She tells time like clockwork (my attempt at being funny…ha ha). We wouldn’t want to miss those treats, now would we. I go out into the garage with Mom Peep every night after dinner. She gives me a special treat that I like to chew on while she rides her exercise bike and reads the paper.
Happy you enjoyed the article in American Pet Magazine.

Wow, Charlie, it is nice to know what dogs like! I don’t understand why my childhood dog Rascal did not always like tummy rubs and cared which side I had him sit. He once nosed my back before nosing under my right arm to sit by me. Later in that loving session he looked peeved and upset when I cuddled him up to my front and left sides. Why, Charlie, why?

He would listen to me praise him for hours though, but I wonder if he understood me when I was praising him for past good stuff and had not used “good dog” at the time he did them. I just prattled on, expecting him to understand from my looks that I adored him! He really looked happy when I could finally get him to do a full body hug with his front paws on my shoulders. I wispered “I love you. I love you” into each ear….Had he understood me all those years?

      Hi Susan,
I bet Rascal understood every word you uttered to him. It’s funny how we dogs don’t like certain things at certain times. I only flip over for tummy rubs when I feel like it. It has to do with how nimble I’m feeling that day…kind of like when you people might wake up with a sore back that morning.
Why did Rascal like one side of you more than the other? That’s a mystery. Could be that he was comfortable on the one side and didn’t want to be moved. I know I hate it when Mom Peep moves me around. I like it just where I am at the time. But you know what? Sometimes I don’t mind that she picks me up, or hugs me a little. It’s all in my mood for that day. Go figure us doggies, huh? But I know she loves me with all her heart, like I know Rascal loves you and can’t wait to see you over the Rainbow Bridge where he is in doggie heaven.
      Wiggles to you,
      Charlie Bear

Charlie Bear wrote about the 10 things he appreciates (and all dogs). Even though June is pet appreciation month, Charlie Bear is so thankful to have been rescued that he continues to express it.

      Helene,
You’re in our drawing! And yup, I am so very thankful I have been rescued. There are others who need it, and I’m hopeful that all people who look for a loving pet check out shelters and rescue sites.
Woofs and thanks for entering our contest!
