A Dog’s New Year’s Resolutions from Charlie Bear

January 3, 2012 at 7:04 am 20 comments

One of my New Year’s Resolutions is to keep a watchful eye on the backyard at all times for those pesky possums that run along the high wall.

Mom Peep found this on the internet. See what you think. I have another resolution to share with you at the end.

If Dogs Could Talk: A Dog’s Top Ten New Year’s Resolution List
Courtesy of American Kennel Club

This New Years – the American Kennel Club published a clever article on dogs New Years Resolutions.

Top 10 Resolutions by Dogs include:
10. Owner on floor, dog in bed.
9. Stop begging and actually get a seat at the dinner table.
8. Give up the dream of ever catching my tail.
7. Bark like a big dog but still get cuddled on lap like a little dog.
6. Get back at cat for litter box incident.
5. Find every bone I ever buried.
4. No more haircuts! (Come fall, I can go as a Komondor for Halloween).
3. Become alpha dog in my house. Well, at least stop letting the cat push me around.
2. Invent goggles that allow me to see the electric fence.
1. Finally pass that darn AKC Canine Good Citizen test.

* * *

I personally have to work on #8. And I work really hard on #7, doing my best to bark like a REALLY big dog, especially at possums. But I’m never going to give up the cuddling part.

But my biggest resolution is to never do this to Mom’s books again:

What resolutions do YOU agree, or disagree, with?

My first sighting of Charlie Bear was in Palm desert….that cute little face was watching mom and dad play golf !!! Perched high on top of the comfy chair….tail wagging with delight..looking out the window……wishing that his golfing family would get a hole in one…or at least over the water that is filled with lots of birds to chase. He probably thinks….what a ridiculous game…..noone is even fetching the ball. Oh the eyes of a dog….they see everything….love to introduce you to some lovely yorkies that live across the lake and around the path….and over the hill…..hugs from lulubelle and oscar

      Lulubelle and Oscar,

I’d like to meet you sometime too. Mom Peep tells me you both are cute as buttons .Did you know my dad wanted a Yorkie like you guys, but then they fell in love with me? Good for me, huh?

Keep your Mom Peep happy and give her lots of little whiskery kisses.

      Marnie,

You caught on to me — I am trying to get rid of the competition! They don’t taste very good though, so I’m leaving them alone now.

To all you cuddly, cute and sometimes mischevious dogs, i bet i’ve got all of you beat with the chewing bit especially books, i got my peep moms commerative Bible with good over hung edges and i had such a good chew with it while she was gone one day, its a wonder she did not do me in for that but she didn’t, she did put it up to where i can no longer get to it. I still like to chew though especially my squeaky toys, i can’t stand to have one of them and not be able to get the squeaker out; but all and all i am a pretty good boy if i will ever learnn to hold my water works & poop til i can get to go outside, but i always say ”Theres always more room outside than in”, and when “You gotta go, you gotta go”. Good luch to all you dogs and to you cats too; and “Happy New Year” to everyone.

      Beaugie and Piper,

It’s a good thing God is forgiving…cause you chewed up the Bible! I’m happy your Mom put it up high. I was sniffing around Mom Peep’s books the other day and her emphatic “no” made me back up right away. I don’t think I want anything to do with those books anymore.

I don’t tear up my squeaky toys. I hardly even chew them at all. I wonder what kind of dog that makes me? I play with them, gum them up a bit, but that’s about it. Big dog Rex sure chewed up enough of them for both of us in this household!

Keep working on holding your water works until you make it outside.

Much woofs & wiggles to you both,
      Charlie Bear

Charlie (with shock): you did not really chew on her books, did you? I cannot believe it! I’ve heard of chewing on shoes, but books…………
You really were a bad boy! Now stay out of trouble, boy…

      Susan,
There weren’t any shoes around at the time the chewing bug bit me. And the tops of those books just looked so enticing. It was the hardcover ones that tasted the best. Mom Peep told me those cost the most and asked why I didn’t chew up the cheaper paperback copies? Geez…
I’m trying to stay out of trouble. I haven’t done anything but pull one book out of the stack a few weeks ago. I was going to chew it, but Mom came into the room and caught me before I had time.
I’ll definitely try to be a good boy.
      Woofs & wiggles to you,

Charlie Bear, when I turn around at my desk and look behind me, I see my important papers that Clyde has chewed on. Sorta like what you did, buddy. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your list. We’ll have to work on Clyde’s for sure!!

      Clyde,
You must not eat your Mom’s important papers. Thank goodness I haven’t done that yet. I’ve stolen her post-it-notes off the top of her desk and run around with them until they were gooey and unusable. I’ve snatched papers out of the trash can beside where she works and methodically shredded them to pieces (Rex the big dog taught me that one). And I’ve chewed on the tops of those books you see in the picture. That was a big no-no.
But we really must take into account that those things belong to our Peeps and not to us. Hey, really…haven’t we got enough toys???
      Woofs to you big guy,

Hi Charlie Bear, my family obtained Cuddy, a small mixed Collie. Very nice dog. Does lots of tricks. We are still adjusting though. My nieces have a small dashound puppy named Thome, and he’s the cutest thing. He loves to tease their 17 year old cat named Elmo, who swats at him with her declawed paws. He loves to nest in his beds, dig to China, and run and pick up his chew toys and bones. His most important resolution is to not dig out the carpeting in the house. Woofs and wiggles to you. Claudette and Cuddy,

Adjustment is tough, isn’t it? It took me a long time in this forever home to get along with everyone (big dog and peeps). We’ll just have to hang in there and do our best, right?

      Wigges to you, Cuddy,

    Hi Charlie Bear,

I love this list! I wholeheartedly agree with #9 and #10, but the one that really hits home for me is #3. The only difference is I don’t have A cat pushing me around, I have THREE cats telling me what to do all the time. But Mom says that’s one of the things she loves about me. No matter how much they try to bully me, I take it and don’t ever get mad at them or hurt them. Even when Piper slaps me with her paws or Mikka tries to steal my chew bones, I am still good natured about it. Well, I do growl at Mikka, but she knows I’m bluffing so it doesn’t bother her at all. She keeps right on after it until I get up and move. Mom says I’m about the sweetest dog ever!

The only thing I chew up is my plushy toys with squeakers. First I have to chew the squeaker out and then I leave the stuffing all over the living room. It looks like snow! Mom doesn’t like it much though. She hopes my new year’s resolution is to quit chewing up the toys she gets me.

    We’ll see.

    Your pal,
    Jake

      Jake,

Big dog Rex used to tear holes in his toys and pull out the squeaker first, then rip up the inner guts and spread them like white snow (just like you) around the entire room. Mom Peep didn’t like it either, but she smiled as she picked it up. She knew he had a good time with each and every $1 toy she got at the swap meet.

I don’t have cats telling me what to do, like you. They’re all gone now. I kind of miss them. You’re very good to treat them so nicely. Kudos to you, Jake.

Happy New Year to what your Mom calls you — the Sweetest Dog Ever!

I remember a few book eating incidents here as well. Do you remember the final Harry Potter? The one you removed the cover jacket from before chewing the spine and tops of pages? At least we can put the cover jacket back on a hide most of the damage.

Be a good boy Charlie Bear.

      Sara,

I forgot about chewing Harry Potter. Sorry about that. I haven’t chewed in a long, long time. The books you see in the picture I got into just a few months after moving into this new (and great) home. Mom did catch me sniffing them one day just a month or so ago, and told me “no” in an emphatic voice. I got the picture. : )

      Woofs & Wiggles to you,
      Charlie Bear
