Charlie Bear says: I’m Not Afraid of No Scale!

September 1, 2011 at 8:45 am 10 comments

The 1st of every month is weigh-in day. Mom Peep says she wants me to keep my trim, healthy shape and I guess I have to agree with her. I’m usually 16 pounds but today I was a whopping 16.5! Mom wasn’t concerned though. She said a .5 weight gain isn’t worrisome. Only if I ballooned up like to 18 or 19 in a month, then she’d be worried.

Here’s how she does the weigh in: She brings the scale into the kitchen and then first weighs herself. She doesn’t let Dad see the number and I know she’s always fighting that scale and watching what she eats. She has this goal weight that she likes to maintain and darn it, sometimes it’s just not working for her. I can understand how she loves food. I love it too. Especially those yummy treats Mom and Dad Peep give me. But Mom is always saying, “Not too many!”

Anyway, she weighs herself, puts the number in the calculator (she won’t even say it out loud!), then she picks me up and weighs me with her. She takes that number and enters it into the calculator and the difference is what I weigh.

She tells me the reason she wants me to stay trim is because I fit perfectly on the arm of Dad’s recliner. Any bigger and I’d probably fall off. You know that Three Bears story where the first bear’s bed the little girl tries is too hard, then the next is too soft, then the third is JUST RIGHT? That’s me and Dad’s chair. It’s just my size and I love it.

Mom thinks it’s important to get exercise, so I chase her around the house (she thinks she’s chasing me, but it’s the other way around), and we play in the yard. Sometimes she takes me for a swim.

I’ve gotten used to the swimming. Don’t tell them, but I actually kind of like it. I think they know, though, because the last time we went in the water I leaped off the step toward Dad and swam like a fish.

So all in all, weigh-in day isn’t too bad. I plan on being around a long, long time so I want to stay healthy. And I just had a very special day this past Sunday. Kind of a milestone for me. I’ll tell you about it the next time, okay?

Until then, have a super wiggly, giggly day, and a fantastic long weekend.

Woofs & Wiggles,
Charlie Bear

Think of it this way, Chalie Bear. You really do look adorable sitting there on your dad’s chair~and swimming in your pool looks fun. I’d love to try it out one day.

      Julie and Clyde,

Yeah, I’m cute. That’s what Mom always tells me. Right now I’m sitting on her lap helping her type this message to you. : ) She kisses me on top of the head and sometimes I swivel my head around and give her a little lick.

That pool is great, Julie, but it’s cold a lot of the time. Mom is very careful not to let me swim if the water isn’t warm enough. You’ll have to time your visit out here very carefully!

My mom avoids the scale like a plague, Charlie Bear. She’s got a pudding belly just like mine. I guess we’re both doomed to Fatland.
    Love ya, Honey Bunny

      Honey Bunny,

You make me laugh. If you ask my Mom Peep she’ll tell you she has a pudding butt. Runs in the family she says. Me? I have no idea who my family was/is ’cause I’m a rescue, but that’s okay. I’ll go with what I’ve got, which is a Mom & Dad Peep who love me, just like your Mommy loves you.

Have a GREAT weekend, Honey Bunny.

Shhhh!!! Sorry Charlie, but I’m going to have to hide this post from my Mom. She’s already been cutting back on my treats! She says that because it’s been so hot this summer she hasn’t been able to take me on the long walks I need so I’ve been getting a little bit chunky! She’s also started picking up the left over catfood the girls don’t eat to keep me from scarfing it down when they finish. I mean, I’m all for being healthy and living a long life, but gee whiz! Who’s side are you on??

    Your pal,

You made me laugh out loud. I’m on the side of all dogs everywhere! Bring on the treats! You know the big dog Rex LOVED cat food. We have that outdoor cat Bear and when Mom would forget to pick up his bowl of food when he was done eating, Rex rushed over and scarfed up the remainder as fast as he could. He even picked up the bowl sometimes and tipped the morsels onto the ground before Mom got there just so he’d get more of them to eat. What a character.

I guess what Mom says is a good thing: everything in moderation. I don’t always like it though!

Woofs and wiggles to you, Jake!
