“Something to Chew On” Charlie Bear with LAA #3

April 4, 2011 at 9:41 am 10 comments

The next morning started out pretty well. After shredding the screen door the day before, I put on my best behavior and acted like I belonged in this home, though I was actually thinking about how I could get out and away. New things were hard for me and I didn’t adjust well.

MALE PEEP: “Come up here, Charlie Bear. Lie in my lap.”

No sweeter words could a dog hear. He had a nice lap and massaged my head. I didn’t normally like to be touched, that used to be one of my issues. I could see the female peep watching me like a bird that flew into the kitchen uninvited. I didn’t give her anything to worry about that day though, so we were cool.

FEMALE PEEP: “You’re being a good boy today, Charlie Bear. Settling in nicely.”

When I went outside, I ran circles in the back yard like I was running the Indy 800, and I only chased my tail twice. But being good takes a toll on a dog; it’s just not natural for me. And after dinner I’d had it.

They set up a crate and den for me in the family room. The first night I was so exhausted I went right to sleep. I can only account for my behavior that second night by claiming I was overtired. Ever see a toddler scream, throw their body on the floor and kick their feet? That’s overtired. And that was me. I went into my den willingly, and the peeps went upstairs to bed. I waited about ten minutes until I knew they were just falling asleep, and I began to bark. I mean a high-spirited, shrieking barking session that would rival any coyote family out in the woods.

MALE PEEP: “Charlie! Stop it and go to sleep.”

I heard him. But I didn’t listen. I barked with insistence, piercing the night.

FEMALE PEEP: “Go to sleep, Charlie.”

Ten minutes went by without my stopping. Then another five, and another five after that. I heard talking.

MALE PEEP: “What in the world did we get ourselves into? Are we crazy?”

NOTE: If you want to catch up with what happened in LBA (Life Before Adoption), you can look under “Charlie Chat” on the right. All the posts are there, and these new ones about LAA (Life After Adoption) will be there too. As my new peep called it in previous posts, watch for more of Something to Chew On by me, Charlie Bear, in the weeks ahead.

Thanks for stopping by. We love your comments, so feel free to make some. Woof!

    CB & Rex;
    You know that was the way i acted yesterday 4/3, but not Piper, she was asleep (or trying 2) on her peeps bed, but me i thought everyone had gone and left us anims all by ourselves, so i procedded to keep her company and do some of my singing to her; which is i’d bark a short bark, then put a howl to it; that was when i found out my peep was still in bed and not gone, she told me to shut up and go to sleep, and as you i paid her no mind.
    She came, got me and put me in bed with her and we both settled down & took a nap. After we woke up she played a game of ‘Tug of War’ with me; she does not like for us to play that game for fear it may injure my teeth, it is my favorite game though; can your peep tell her it will not hurt mine for they are so ”Bucked” in the front? Well good bye for now & try to be as good as you can, as me & Piper try to be, but she’s always good, but me; i have my days..

    Lov U guys;
    Beaugie & Piper..

      Beaugie & Piper,
      How nice of you to write! So you like to sing too? We’d be a great group.
      When you play tug of war let your peep win. They like that.
      Woofs and sniffles,
