National Dog Day – Who Knew?

Show your dog extra love to celebrate National Dog Day on Thursday, August 26th. Joy Randel, founder of DazzleDogDelight.com, gives dog owners six suggestions for showing your pet appreciation.

Hold a pooch play date – Gather your neighbors and their dogs at a local park or someone’s home. The dogs will love the canine company and owners can spend time sharing stories about their dogs and ways to improve their daily care.

Spend extra time at your dog’s favorite spot – Whether it’s a wooded area, the dog park or just an extra long run, indulge your dog by doing what he or she loves to do best. Most of all, you and your dog will enjoy quality time together.

Buy healthy treats – Every dog enjoys a treat. Buy a new treat or more of the ones your dog already loves. Be sure they are healthy, free from chemicals and artificial preservatives.

Schedule a photo shoot – Hire a pet photographer to capture this moment in time. Your dog’s personality will shine through.

Write a note to thank the people who take care of your pet – Whether it’s a dog walker, groomer or trainer, many dog owners have partners who help care for their dog. Send them a thank you note for all that they do in helping improve your dog’s life.

Adopt a dog – Your local shelters have hundreds of dogs waiting to be adopted. The best gift you could give any dog is love and a home.

Who knew? Love the suggestions for play dates, etc.
I’m currently dogless, but after a relocation to another state will probably rectify that condition. My son and I are both mush when it comes to dogs.

Hi Lois, I’m with you — bring on the mush! I know you’ll find just the right new friend after your move. You must let us know when it happens!

Hey Kimi — are you up in Big Bear yet with those three fabulous pooches? Definitely pool time is in order here in California today. Hot one again they say. Hugs to all.

I know about it, but only found out a few days ago! I’d never heard of it before, but it’s a good reason to spoil the pups even more! Raw bison bones and pool time today!
